CENTENARY UNIVERSITY’S SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS TO OFFER ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAM FOR MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY

Hackettstown, N.J., August 24, 2016 – For the Fall 2016 semester, Centenary University’s School of International Programs will again offer adult ESL (English as a Second Language) classes for the community. This service is offered to adults who are not full time matriculated students at the University, as there has been a growing demand for a class like this in the Hackettstown area.

The classes will be held on Thursday nights from 5:30 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. beginning on September 8, 2016 through December 8, 2016. Classes will be taught by Professor Lauren Lesce, M.A., Linguistic Studies at Syracuse University.

“I am pleased to be able to offer this resource to members of our community again,” says Dr. Joseph Linskey, Dean for the School of International Programs at Centenary University. “This comprehensive course can benefit people and better equip them as they move forward in their personal and professional lives. We have had over 50 people participate in this program so far and the feedback regarding this course has been very positive.”

Members of this class are eligible to obtain a library card from Centenary University. At the library we have many resources including computers, printers, videos, books and magazines to assist the students with their English language studies. In particular, the Library has expanded its selection of bilingual and Spanish books.

The Community ESL class first started in September of 2015 at full capacity. In response to continued interest, the University is pleased to be able to expand this program as a way to help non-native English speakers become more proficient in English and acquire the basic knowledge and skills they need to function effectively as parents, employees and citizens. Classes are open to persons 18 years or older.
