Hackettstown, N.J. January 24, 2017 – The Centenary University community is pleased to continue its collaboration for the second year with Rutherfurd Hall and The House of the Good Shepherd to present the Centenary University Lecture Series at Rutherfurd Hall, located at 1686 Route 517 in Allamuchy, N.J.
Dr. Kris Gunawan, Ph.D Assistant Professor of Psychology at Centenary University, will be conducting the first session of the Lecture Series. His presentation titled “Cognitive Aging in Language and Memory” will take place on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. This lecture will explore the normal aging process in relation to people’s working memory capacity, mental representations, language comprehension and overall cognitive performance. This free lecture is made possible by the generous funding from the House of the Good Shepherd.

“I am looking forward to presenting my research at Rutherfurd Hall,” adds Dr. Gunawan. “Because aging is a universal human experience, it is relevant and important to everyone’s lives.”
Dr. Gunawan is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology and Counseling Department at Centenary University. He currently teaches undergraduate courses related to research methods, statistics, cognitive psychology, and biopsychology. He has received awards in teaching, such as the Frank Costin Memorial Award for Excellence for a collaborative project presented at the National Institute on the Teaching of Psychology in 2015 and the Students’ Choice for Psychology Faculty of the Year at California State University, Fullerton in 2016. In addition, Dr. Gunawan supervises the Active Cognition Research Team. His team’s research focuses on examining and understanding various mental processes involved in everyday activities.

Rutherfurd Hall is designated as a National and New Jersey State Historic Landmark. Famed architect, Whitney Warren, designed the 18,000 square foot Tudor country home in Allamuchy, NJ in 1904. Warren also designed Grand Central Station in New York City as Warren and Wetmore Architects (1903-1911). Frederick Law Olmsted & Sons designed the landscape plan and the plantings for the site. It now serves as a cultural center and a museum owned and managed by the Allamuchy Board of Education. Rutherfurd Hall provides educational and enrichment opportunities for the residents of Allamuchy and the surrounding communities.
