Centenary University Senior is Cornell Bound for Vet School

Acceptance to Ivy League institution continues Centenary’s track record for placements at prestigious veterinary schools.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ, March 11, 2021—Centenary University senior Emma Kerr of Wolfeboro, N.H., has chosen to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her acceptance to the Ivy League institution continues Centenary’s tradition of placing graduates at prestigious veterinary schools, including Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, North Carolina State, and Ross University. In fact, Centenary has a near-perfect track record for veterinary school acceptances over the past four years.

Attending veterinary school has been a long-time dream for Kerr, who was also accepted to Tufts University. “Centenary is the place to be if you want to go to vet school, or if you want to get into horses or animals in general,” she said. “I have genuinely enjoyed my time here and have made lifelong connections.”

A Dean’s List student, Kerr is an equine pre-vet major with minors in biology and chemistry. On campus, she is president of the Student Government Association, the Pre-professional Club, and the Equine Club, which she founded in her junior year. Kerr said, “I wanted to connect the equine population with those on campus because the equine department has such a big presence at Centenary.”

In addition, Kerr is very involved in the Omega Rho Chapter of Beta Beta Beta, also known as Tri-Beta, an honor society for students interested in the sciences, and she serves as a First Year Leader helping first-year students to adjust to life at the University. Of her busy schedule, Kerr explained, “I knew coming into college that I wanted to make the time to immerse myself in every aspect that Centenary has to offer. Being welcomed in by every department has just solidified how involved Centenary is with student success.”
