This Internship is the Sixth for this Sports Management Student

Hackettstown, N.J., January 23, 2018 – Centenary University student David Vanartsdalen understands that it is important to get a lot of experience in one’s chosen field even before graduation. This Sports Management student understands this so well that he is embarking on his sixth internship. This semester the Palmyra resident is going international for this opportunity, as he will be working with the London Scottish Rugby Club in London.

His first internship was completed before he ever stepped foot on the Centenary University campus when he was a high school student with the Philadelphia Phillies and was honored for his commitment during his time there. During his first year at Centenary, he was involved in game day operations through his internship with the New York Red Bulls and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. As a sophomore, Vanartsdalen continued to acquire game day operations experience with the Philadelphia Eagles and he did an internship in Washington, D.C. with Monumental Sports Entertainment working for their WNBA and indoor football teams.

Last year, Vanartsdalen had the unique opportunity to travel to Manchester, England with his Sports Practicum class. They conducted a joint project with students from Manchester Metropolitan University for various event management opportunities.

“I was never really interested in exploring sports management experience for an international team, but my interest was piqued after traveling to England last year,” says Vanartsdalen. “I was able to make connections after my time at Manchester Metropolitan University and Professor David Perricone was also instrumental in my progression and has been an incredible mentor.”

The London Scottish Rugby Club internship will include working with the Marketing and Sales areas. His supervisors were interested in working with Vanartsdalen because of his game day entertainment experience.

“They want to incorporate entertainment during the breaks and I can bring some new ideas to the table,” says Vanartsdalen. “In the United Kingdom, a game does not include these extras.”

So rugby is the latest sport that he can include in his resume of sports management experience. Along with clubs that focus on football, soccer, basketball (men and women’s), hockey, arena football and baseball, Vanartsdalen can expand his resume to include the sport of rugby. What is in store for him after this experience? It certainly will be exciting to see what will be next!
