Pier Semanchik
Hackettstown, N.J., May 9, 2017– Centenary University has announced the recipient of the Hackettstown High School student scholarship for the fall semester of 2017 — Pier Semanchik, an accomplished student and avid equestrian. The scholarship is one of the ongoing partnerships between the institutions, which was established in 2007. This scholarship covers tuition for one Hackettstown High School student during his or her four-year stay.
“I am pleased that Pier Semanchik has earned this scholarship.. Each year, we honor one Hackettstown High School student who has excelled academically and has demonstrated the qualities that this institution values,” says Dr. David Haney, President of Centenary University. “Pier exhibits outstanding academic credentials. She consistently commits time and energy to community affairs. I have no doubt that Pier will flourish as an active and involved member of the Centenary community.”
Pier will graduate from Hackettstown High School this June. Her transcripts already boast three dual credit college-level courses that she completed at Warren County Community College during her high school career. Her community service work is an extensive, ever-growing list that includes participating in community cleanups, packing food baskets and organizing holiday parties for the less fortunate, volunteering at Morristown Memorial Hospital, baking cookies for Meals-On-Wheels, coordinating a blood drive at Hackettstown High School, collecting soda tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charity, and helping to refurbish the interior home of a local resident with disabilities.
Pier is an accomplished equestrian horseback rider with a winning record that precedes her. She was honored as the Warren County “Junior” Equestrian of the Year in 2014 and as the Warren County Equestrian of the Year in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, she was also selected as the New Jersey Equestrian of the Year, an impressive accolade that may foreshadow her success in the Equine Department at Centenary University. Pier has served as a representative of both the New Jersey Equine Advisory Board and the New Jersey Horse Council (2016).
Pier cares for goats and horses at a local private farm where her responsibilities include feeding and cleaning up after the animals as well as minor vet care. In addition, Pier has shadowed local equestrian veterinarian, East Coast Equine Veterinary Service, for three years.
Founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church, Centenary University’s academic program integrates a solid liberal arts foundation with a strong career orientation. This mix is designed to provide an educational experience that prepares students to succeed in the increasingly global and interdependent world.
Centenary University’s main campus is located in Hackettstown, N.J., with its equestrian facility in Washington Township (Morris County). The Centenary University School of Professional Studies offers degree programs in two locations: Parsippany and Edison, online and at corporate sites throughout New Jersey.
