Hackettstown, N.J., March 13, 2017 – Centenary University will host its 20th Annual Scholarship Gala from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on April 7, 2017, at the Farmhouse at the Grand Colonial in Hampton, N.J. This year’s theme is “Celebrating 150 Years of Scholarship.” The evening will feature a cocktail reception, live and silent auctions, special guests, dinner, music, and dancing!
This year, over $ 15 million from the institution’s annual budget was awarded in financial aid to full-time undergraduate students. Since its inception, the Scholarship Gala has raised over $2.7 million for the Centenary Scholarship Fund.
“This is an important milestone in the history of the University,” says Emily Russell, Director of Annual Giving at Centenary. “Not only are we commemorating the 150th anniversary of Centenary, we are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of our annual Gala fundraising event. We are thrilled to be able to celebrate the successes of Centenary, our scholarship donors, and our amazing student scholarship recipients all in one evening.”
Current Centenary students Ariana Archilla and Gregory Robinson, both scholarship recipients, will be giving remarks.
Archilla is a sophomore majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Centenary community of the Odyssey website, which is a social media platform committed to democratizing content creation while personalizing discovery. She oversees the process with the 20 content creators who contribute regularly. In addition, she is a note taker through the Centenary University Academic Success Center and a barista at Greene’s Beans, Centenary’s café, which is located on campus at the Taylor Memorial Library.
Robinson is a sophomore majoring in Accounting and Finance with a minor in Social Media Marketing. He is the Vice President of Social Media for Enactus and the President of the Chess Club. In addition, he is a First Year Leader and a member of the International Student Organization (ISO). He is the President of the Athlete Advisory Committee and a member of the Student Government Association and Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity.
This event will take place after another historic milestone that day, as earlier that afternoon Dr. David P. Haney is being inaugurated as the 13th President of Centenary University in a ceremony beginning at 1pm.
About The Scholarship Gala Venue: The Farmhouse at the Grand Colonial
Homesteaded in 1685, The Farmhouse at The Grand Colonial is a window into the architectural, medical and military history of Hunterdon County. The Blane Homestead was built by master craftsmen and is the oldest known building in Hampton New Jersey. In April 1831, Dr. John Blane, a well-respected physician, purchased the property upon which The Farmhouse now stands. Today, The Farmhouse’s guests experience the property’s charm when dining in The Tree Bank Room, named for Dr. Blane’s service as a “travelling teller,” the 1685 Room, and all of the other areas original to the farm.
