(Hackettstown, N.J., April 19, 2018) – The senior students of Centenary University Sports Management Program will host the Awesome Athletes Walk-a-Thon and Family Fun Day event to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey – Area 3 (Morris, Sussex, and Warren Counties) on Sunday, April 29 at Donaldson Farms – Farm Market located at 358 Allen Road in Hackettstown, New Jersey. The community is invited to participate in a scenic morning walk through the farm, followed by an afternoon of Family Fun activities. Walk-a-thon registration is $15 for ages 12 year and up, $10 ages 5-12 years and children 4 and under are free. Walk-a-thon participants will receive complimentary passes for Family Fun activities. Guests who do not participate in the walk are invited to stop by the farm for a BBQ lunch and to and enjoy the Family Fun event.

The event will kick off at Noon on Sunday with 1-mile walk through the apple orchards and crop fields at Donaldson Farms followed by an afternoon of family fun activities from 1:00pm – 4:00pm including laser tag, pony rides, face painting, a delicious BBQ lunch by Sauced and Rubbed Fine Food and Caterers and dessert pudding by Dalcourt’s Desserts. Special Olympic Athletes who attend the event are encouraged to wear their uniform or medal from any of their competition. All proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics of New Jersey – Area 3.

The mission of Special Olympics New Jersey – Area 3 is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
