Hackettstown, N.J., August 29, 2014– R.J. Swingle, a 2010 graduate of Centenary University has recently become National Board Certified as a Doctor of Chiropractic. The Phillipsburg resident recently graduated from New York Chiropractic College and teamed up with fellow chiropractor, Dr. Fred Rossi at his offices in Phillipsburg and Stirling. Dr. Rossi currently treats the United States Wrestling Team. He accompanies them in tournaments all over the world, including the 2012 London Olympics.
“I am so pleased to work with Dr. Swingle,” says Dr. Rossi. “He has a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.”
Swingle has been interested in becoming a chiropractor since he was very young because he wanted to help and teach people about the benefits of healing through chiropractic treatment. He was affected by memories of his own uncle who was plagued with issues related to chronic back pain and even completed his 7th grade project by creating a research paper about the career of chiropractic medicine . During his years at Centenary University in the Biology program, he expressed an interest in attending chiropractic school. He was concerned about the amount of time that would be required being in class and on schoolwork, as well as being away from his family. The chiropractic program runs 45 weeks out of the year for 3.5 years leaving very little time to spend with loved ones.
Throughout the process, Dr. Lauren Bergey, Associate Professor of Biology and Chair of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department, was instrumental in demonstrating support for Dr. Swingle.
“Dr. Bergey, along with other faculty members at Centenary University, have always been approachable and encouraging,” says Dr. Swingle. “I will never forget the support that I reached during and after my academic career at Centenary University.”
During his time at New York Chiropractic College, Swingle had his stepson living with him for two years and his son for one year. He coached wrestling at a local high school and a youth group and had the opportunity to coach both boys during this time period.
“It was difficult living without my entire family while I was attending New York Chiropractic College,” says Dr. Swingle. “It was necessary, however, in order for me to complete my studies. This whole experience has taught me that there is nothing more rewarding than accomplishing a goal when it takes a lot of sacrifices to achieve the end result. My graduation ceremony was so satisfying for me because it took a lot for me to get to that point.”
