Joseph S. Pizzo. M.A. presents about how student success is often the direct by-product of students being given the opportunity to read. The materials being read seem to have the most powerful impact when they provide reasonable access to books of various backgrounds and perspectives. By providing students with a wide range of perspectives, our schools and communities together can equip our youth with knowledge that recognizes the need for social justice that is inclusive and balanced rather than insulated and biased. As Frederick Douglass observed, “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”
