Alex Poage (Production Management)

I am the production assistant for People Helping People Productions, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people, as well as putting up plays for the last three years. It is an experimental theatre group with original works by author, playwright, producer, screenwriter, and founder of PHP, Andrea Clinton, niece of George Clinton. We put up one of her plays, Murphy’s Law: Group Therapy Gone Wild at Hamilton Stages and Union County of Performing Arts’ Blackbox space in Rahway, NJ. Another one of her plays, It’s a Family Affair, was picked up by the Atlanta Black Theater Festival, where we were invited to do a reading in Atlanta, GA that was part of a red carpet event. Now, we are branching out to film and are in talks with Netflix to do a series called H.I.T.S. (Heroes in These Streets), which will deal with the horrors of human trafficking. We just had the table read for the pilot and I was helping get everything together! The table read went very well and we hope to start filming by May.

Some other things I have done since I graduated; I worked as an ASM for New York City Children’s Theatre of NYC, which then led to an internship at Atlantic Theatre Company where I helped build and paint sets for three of their student shows. After that, I got to perform in my first Off-Off-Broadway show with Educational Theatre of NY, a theater group that takes short stories and turns them into plays for people who do not speak English. So, that’s what I’ve been up to since I graduated. I still look back on junior year when you thought it would be a good idea for me to start stage managing, and you were right! Thank you so much for pushing me to do something that I did not think I would ever be good at. I have been able to enjoy both acting and stage managing equally. Sometimes I do both for one production! Thank you all for being the best professors I could have ever asked for and making my experience in theater at Centenary so awesome. I could not have done this without you.
