Merchandising is not about being a store clerk. It’s about the fascinating work that goes on behind the scenes with developing a product that will eventually meet the needs of the consumer.

Our Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Fashion will prepare you for a host of careers including merchandisers, retail managers, fashion buyers, visual merchandisers, fashion show coordinators, stylists, fashion event planners, product managers, technical designers and product developers.

The included Merchandising curriculum exposes students to the processes and procedures to merchandise apparel and related goods such as home furnishings and accessories. You will study retailing, merchandising and buying, while taking courses that develop your creativity, marketing sense and technical skills.

Stand Out in the Field

Centenary’s Fashion program is unusual because it is a B.F.A. in Fashion (and not a Bachelor of Science). Along with your business skills, you will develop your creative talents through learning:

  • How clothing is constructed.
  • The technical aspects of clothing design.
  • The properties of textiles.
  • How design elements relate to clothing design and visual displays.
  • How to create look books and display boards.

These additional skills help Centenary students stand out in the workplace and take advantage of career advancement opportunities. Employers really like the set of skills our students bring to the workplace.
