IDA – Intercollegiate Dressage Association

Centenary’s IDA competes in region C against other colleges and universities in the tri-state area. The team travels to compete at other schools and hosts shows at the Equestrian Center.

The IDA is a national organization that is divided into regions for the purpose of intercollegiate competition. At each show individual and team points and ribbons are earned, which count towards regional standings and qualification for national finals.

IHSA – Intercollegiate Horse Show Association

Classes range from walk/trot for beginner riders to the Open Division for the more experienced riders. During the year, riders accumulate points and ribbons at local shows to qualify for the Regional Finals in their respective divisions.

The top three riders in each class of the Regional Finals move forward to the Zone Finals. The top two competitors in each class at Zones qualify for Nationals. Centenary is consistently ranked at the top of intercollegiate riding competition.

Hunter / Jumper

The Hunter/Jumper Team provides students with the opportunity to compete throughout the academic year at both USEF recognized and unrecognized competitions. In addition, the team organizes and manages schooling shows at the Equestrian Center that are open to students and  local exhibitors.

The team competition year culminates annually with the Garden State Horse Show in early May. This competition, managed by Tim Cleary, Assistant Professor at Centenary University, is currently the largest “AA” horse show in the state of New Jersey.
