Application to the B.S.W. Program includes:

  • Application form
  • Transcripts from all colleges
  • 2 references
    • one academic
    • one related to employment or volunteer work
  • A GPA of 2.8 is required for admission to the program, although provisional acceptance will be considered for students with a GPA at or above 2.5 who demonstrate strengths in all other areas of evaluation.

Interested students are strongly encouraged to submit a completed application before the end of the spring semester, although applications received during the summer months will also be considered.

The B.S.W. Program Director and the Field Director meet to evaluate and discuss each individual candidate’s application. Included in this evaluation are the candidate’s academic record and references. Also included in this assessment are observations made by Social Work faculty who have taught courses in which the applicant was enrolled regarding the student’s intellectual abilities, communication skills, work ethic and other personal characteristics such as the capacity for self-reflection and empathy, and the ability to develop and maintain cooperative and collegial relationships.

Students may only declare Social Work as a major when they have been formally notified of acceptance to the program by the B.S.W. Program Director, and not before the spring semester of their sophomore year. Social Work is not available as a minor.
