Gabriel Landes

My name is Gabriel Landes, I graduated from Centenary in 2021 and majored in Theatre arts with a concentration in Performance Studies. When I came to Centenary, I started as a performance major and auditioned for many productions since every theatre major is required to a audition. During that time, I learned that there are more opportunities in hearts besides performing. As I took two intro to design classes my freshman year, I got to experience so much about the tech theatre world and fell in love with lighting. I decided to take a lighting design class and it encouraged me to get more involved in the behind-the-scenes part of theater. During my later years at Centenary my main focus at Centenary was lighting. With the extensive amount of learning in the different theatre areas at Centenary University, along with every project I was assigned to, including working with professional designers, I felt like I was ready to take my experience in the tech theatre world to the next level. As I began my senior year at Centenary, I took an independent study in lighting with Judy Snyder, the technical director of Centenary University, where I learned so much about cabling, hanging lights, circuiting, and how to ready a light plot. Towards the end of my senior year, I light designed NextStage Rep’s Production of Sweat by Lynn Nottage for my senior thesis. A few months after graduation, I worked as an electrics intern at Maine State Music Theatre in Brunswick, Maine, and have learned so much. To continue my journey, I start a lighting internship at Eau Claire Children’s Theatre in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I look forward to the next opportunity after that. Centenary has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow in many aspects of theatre. I am so thankful to be a part of an amazing family.
